Ray Liotta was cast in the film in February 2022, but died in May of that year before he could film his scenes. Dennis Quaid replaced him, but Liotta is still mentioned in the director’s “thank you letters.” during the credits.. The toilet mirror reappears unscathed after being repeatedly smashed during the fight sequence.. Elisabeth Sparkle: There was some slight abuse of the substance.. I must admit, I did Madame Fargeat an injustice with my review of her first film (“Revenge”), because at the time I found it to be a pseudo-feminist rape-revenge thriller with significant logic problems. But now I realize: The “message” is just the starting point – otherwise she mostly wants to have fun and share her wonderful style, which I really liked in her first film. This time it was clear from the start: there was no need to even think about suspending disbelief: the no longer very young TV celebrity Elizabeth Sparkle (Demi Moore), now the lead dancer in a fitness program, is rejected by her producer (Dennis Quaid) because of her age. Then she is offered the opportunity to create a younger version of herself (Margaret Qualley) using the substance mentioned in the title. But to do this, rules must be followed and this becomes increasingly difficult, especially for the younger version – with serious consequences. And this is where Fargeat comes in – even more so than in “Revenge”. Body horror at its finest, which makes Cronenberg, Stuart Gordon and Brian Yuzna look almost like beginners. Other horror films are also often quoted (including The Shining, Carrie and Freaks), without seeming contrived or ingratiating. On the other hand, even though this film contains effects that are pretty skin-deep (I’ll just say “spinal tap”), it’s not scary in any way, and there are plenty of laughs to be had due to the over-the-top action. And huge respect to Demi Moore! It takes a lot of courage to expose yourself and be portrayed like that!
